Father, Spirit, Son: Three in One?

The holy Godhead, three and yet one. This concept can be baffling at first blush, even for the “baby Christian,” who is not well-versed in God’s love letter to mankind, the Holy Bible.

And if it is challenging for the new believer, it is a real stumbling-block for the non-believer, especially the Jew and the Muslim. The math of it all just does not make sense on the face of it. One plus one plus one equals one? One divided by three equals one? No, sir, it is "obvious" that 1+1+1=3, and that 1/3 + one third.

Many examples have been used over the years in an attempt to illustrate the Truth, yet they tend to fall just a bit short of doing the job.

The challenge lies in the fact that we are finite beings, while God is infinite, living outside of time and space. It is impossible to utilize the finite to express the infinite. Now, let us use more realistic characters to illustrate the equation:

1∞ + 1∞ + 1∞ = 1∞, and 1∞ / 3∞ = 1∞

To explain. One infinity plus one infinity plus one infinity equals three infinities. And how large is infinity? It is infinity. Three infinities equals one infinity. Therefore three equals one in God's economy.

And one infinity divided by three infinities equals one-third of infinity. And what is that? One infinity and three infinities are the same.

So in the realm of God, one equals three and three equals one. The infinite will never fit inside of the finite any more than the realities of God could ever fit inside of our limited comprehension. If it were otherwise, the One who created everything that exists in the physical universe would not be God. Rather, your comprehension would be God.

There is only one way in which any of us can understand what is absolutely without limit: BELIEVE.
