Happiness or Joy?

Most of us see happiness and joy as synonymous, yet they are entirely different.

Happiness comes from outside circumstances. Note: "hap-" is the root, as in per-haps.

Joy comes bubbling up from inside of a person. It is a deep-seated conviction that is based on faith and truth.

It is a permanent state, as Paul demonstrated in 1 Thessalonians 5:1-18, "Rejoice always.. in everything give thanks."

Some things in life do not exactly encourage happiness or laughing, but the conviction that God is in the middle of our circumstances can and should cause joy and a sense of being contented. Even if all around us brings on tears, "joy comes in the morning." ~ Psalm 30:5

So do not allow anything or anyone to steal your joy. Trust in the Lord. Be filled to overflowing with Holy Spirit. And trust in His perfect will for your life.
