The nature of temptation

"No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it." ~~1 Cor 10:13 (NKJV) "Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you." ~~James 4:7 (NKJV) Notice it does not say here "he might" or "he'll think about it." Where most fall short is in neglecting the first sentence. Aaah, how the human spirit resists being submitted to any authority.
