Greetings! The recipe for Johnny's Bis-Cookies follows.

As I was preparing the latest order it was impressed upon me how this recipe corresponds to life.

To begin with, the Bible provides the recipes for a good, safe, joy-filled life. If we follow it, we cannot go far off-course.

There are a few basic ingredients that are necessary for all life. If we are wise and fortunate we will prayerfully and carefully pick and choose what else goes into it.

However, for most the mix is made up of whatever happens to be on hand any given day. There are often plenty of fruits, nuts and flakes at hand. Avoid those things that can make for bitterness, focusing on what makes for beauty and sweetness.

An even blend of what is there provides balance. A steady input of the Word, praise, worship and a determination to live what we believe serves as the base that brings the rest together in a cohesive whole.

God allows pressure to be brought to bear-- heat. Not so much that we burn to a crisp; not so little that nothing of value develops. He will not do our part, and we cannot do His. And if we are yielded to His perfect will, what comes out will be a delight. No two come out the same: each is a unique treasure.

Happy baking, brothers and sisters!

Carol Ann and I both enjoy cooking and baking. Usually once or twice a week she encourages me to prepare a breakfast including "Bis-Cookies." The oven is pre-heated to 450 degrees for the non-stick cookie sheet. In a bowl I combine**:

1 cup of Bis-Quick

1/4-1/3 cup of Quick Oats

1/4-1/3 cup of chopped nuts (we like walnuts best for baking - excellent brain food)

2/3 cup of milk

1/2-1 tsp Cinnamon

Once the oven is heated up, I spoon out the mixture onto the cookie sheet in relatively even lots, then use the edge of the spoon to level each out. Into the oven it goes for 12-13 minutes. This makes enough for the two of us with coffee and juice, with a little left over for dessert later in the day.

**Can also include peanut butter in place of fresh nuts, chocolate or other baking chips, berries (fresh, defrosted or dried), crushed fresh or defrosted fruit, a little pancake syrup or honey... the variations are limited only to your own taste, as long as you vary the amount of Bis-quick and milk to give it a moist yet not watery texture when you spoon it out.
