Precious Words

We’d shared our hearts
for quite awhile:
laughter, tears
and a lot of smiles
We found a bond
that grew each day,
and I knew I loved her
in every way.
The things we liked –
‘most all the same,
and I wanted her
to share my name.
Her voice grew soft:
I strained to hear.
Then came the words
I hold so dear.
She said, “I love you.”
My heart skipped a beat.
Did I hear right
that sound so sweet?
“I said, ‘I love you,’”
she said it again,
and I knew I’d found
a joy without end.
I’m forever committed,
“what else could I do?)
for this dear precious lady
has said, “I love you.”
