In Distress

Today I lost my focus for a bit, and decided to dash this off to entertain my wife.
A two-lane highway
Snakes past the home.
With elderly neighbors
We're mostly alone.
Cars passing by? Well,
There's not much we hear.
But the trucks as they brake,
Ah, that catches the ear.
The worst are responders
And the sirens that blare:
If you aren't quite ready
They'll give you a scare.
It jangles my nerves
When I'm trying to write,
And may wake us both up
When we're down for the night.
Yet whenever we hear that
Cacophonous mess
A siren means someone
Is now in distress.
So if you hear a siren
And you're out anywhere,
Consider that someone is
In need of a prayer.
Just think of that person
And what the sound means.
Take time for a prayer
And put God on the scene.
